How Did it Start?

About Me

Hi! I'm Joseph, deep tissue specialist and founder of Treat YoSelf Massage & Bodywork. Welcome to a place where relaxation begins, stress falls to the wayside, and muscular tension becomes a memory - not an endpoint.

I have always loved working with and being around people. It is surprising now to think back before I was a therapist, and remember not even considering Massage Therapy as a career! Giving massage has always been something I have been good at. At a young age, I used to give my family "coupons" on birthdays for neck and back massages - a skill that had been fostered throughout my family ever since my father began having severe back issues in his mid 40s. As the years passed I became that guy that everybody sits in front of at family gatherings and parties. Massage had become somewhat of a trademark that I started being known for second to my efficacy in music, my first passion.

After high school I planned on attending community college for general studies towards a possible career in Psychology or Nutritional Science, while fostering my love for music on the side. This plan changed however, as I came near to graduating and more and more people began suggesting I attend school for massage therapy. I considered the idea thoroughly, and toured the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY shortly before applying to the full-time program and attending the following year - a seven month journey that not only ended in graduation and licensure in massage therapy, but was one of the best experiences of my life. I cannot imagine what my life and my mind would be like had I not attended school. The experiences I had, friends and knowledge I acquired, and the skills I sharpened during that period of time shaped me into the person I am now.

After (very happily) receiving my license, I immediately began work at Isabella Spa and Salon in Geneva, NY where I practiced for several months gaining experience and learning from other therapists. Since then it has been a seemingly uphill battle between time and money, working nonstop to be able to open my own business - Treat YoSelf Massage & Bodywork - and own my private practice where I can finally focus on doing the work I love. So here I am! A massage therapist, a helper. Someone who finally is professionally able to assist others in achieving a higher quality of life, to encourage positive changes, and to bring it all together in the powerful medium of therapeutic touch. I hope that you give yourself a chance to try it out! I hope you that you give yourself a chance to see the changes that massage and self care can bring about, and I hope that I can assist in that to bring about the best, healthiest version of you that there can be.
